Adventures Arriving Soon

So, it’s been made official at my job, which gives me the go ahead to go public about this.

After years of thinking on it, paying off loans, and then saving up emergency funds, I finally made it to the last step for my plan to be kicked into motion:

I’m moving to New York City.

I have no job lined up, I have no home figured out yet. I’ve just quit my job and will be selling my car shortly. I do, thankfully, have several lovely friends around NYC and have already talked with a few great design studios thus far, so I’m going to go out on a limb and am giving it a go.

I’ve had lots of experience in interactive design, both with mobile apps and web design, but have been interested in doing print work. It seems everyone in the industry is trying to leap to the other side, yet here I am going against the grain. My end goal is that I become a well-rounded multidisciplinary graphic designer. There are many characteristics of print design I want to better grasp and explore, which I expect to in turn affect my approach to interactive design. With many of my favorite designers in NY, I figure what better place to go learn.

Excited to see how this plays out and everything that comes along with this jump. By March 2012, I expect I will have arrived in Brooklyn and begun my new life in the City. I will keep you posted!
